Utah Drivers License Division (DLD)
Draper Office: 14555 S. Minuteman Drive
Hours: 7:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. (Monday-Friday)
Phone: 801-965-4437

Please make sure that you attend all range and road dates!!!  Please Note: range and road drives are two different requirements.  Students need to complete 6 hours of range driving on our school driving range and DO NOT need to have their Learners Permit to drive on the range.  Students also need to complete 3 hours of road driving and 6 hours of observation with an instructor on the highway.  To be scheduled for road drives a student must have obtained their Learners Permit AND also paid the $140 Drivers Education Fee!

Students MUST be on time in order to attend the range and receive credit for the range.  Failure to comply with the rules of the range or any misbehavior will result in immediate dismissal from the range and possible exclusion from further range or road instruction at Herriman High School.

You MUST be on time for Road Drives.  Road drives can be scheduled before and after school.  Morning drives can start as early as 5:00 a.m.  Because of the large number of students needing to drive it is VERY IMPORTANT that students are flexible about drive times and MUST attend their drives.  NEVER assume that due to bad weather your road drive is cancelled.  The teacher will notify you if a drive needs to be cancelled, so please ALWAYS show up for your road drives.

PLEASE NOTE:  Failure to attend scheduled range or road sessions could result in the delay of completion of requirements for weeks or even months because of the lack of availability for make-up time.

Refunds will not be given once the student has been scheduled for the range.

PARENTS, YOU ARE THE KEY TO YOUR TEEN DRIVER’S SAFETY.

Be involved. Did you know that research has shown that involved parents who set rules and monitor their teen’s driving behavior in a supportive way can cut their teen’s crash risk in half?

ACCORDING TO THE CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL OF PHILADELPHIA’S (CHOP) CENTER FOR INJURY RESEARCH AND PREVENTION, TEENS WHO SAY THEIR PARENTS MONITOR THEIR ACTIVITIES IN A HELPFUL SUPPORTIVE WAY ARE:

Zero Fatalities - Drive Focused Icon
30% less likely to talk on a cell phone while driving
Zero Fatalities - Drive Calm Icon
HALF as likely to speed
Zero Fatalities - Drive Sober Icon
70% less likely to drink and drive
Zero Fatalities - Drive Buckled Icon
2X as likely to wear seat belts

Be the example. Make sure your example is one that you want your teen driver to follow when driving. When a parent models dangerous behaviors it is very hard to convince teens not to follow their lead. Start now to be a model for these safe driving behaviors:

  • No cell phone use – hands-free or hand-held – including at stoplights
  • Don’t speed
  • Always wear a seat belt when you’re in the car
  • Know where you’re going before turning on the car engine
  • Refrain from road rage
  • Do not drive impaired
  • Do not eat, play with the radio, apply makeup etc.
  • Do not tailgate
  • Be a good passenger
